STONEHAM, MA - Finance Board veteran Richard Gregorio and Board of Health member Daniel Doherty apparently intend to challenge Selectman Chair George Seibold's bid for another term in office.

According to Town Clerk John Hanright, both Gregorio and Doherty recently pulled papers for Seibold's Board of Selectmen seat, which will be up for grabs during this April's municipal elections.

"I've often thought of it as you know, and sooner or later I would try," said Gregorio. "I have debated whether I could contribute more being on the Finance Board versus the Selectmen. I am at a point where I feel that being an elected official will give me a better opportunity to make an impact on the Town.

"We are still a year or two away before the Town Finances will start a process of slow improvement, and I would like the opportunity of being in a larger role during this time," added Gregorio. "George has done a good job and is really a great guy, and I am sure what ever other candidates choose to run will offer certain benefits. My background may be a little different, and offer the voters an alternative."

Seibold has also pulled papers for re-election.

This voting season, eight positions on various elected boards will be decided. Including the Selectman's race, which features one opening, there will also be two open School Committee seats, one for a one-year term and the other for a full three year term.

"The last day to pull papers for the Annual Town Election is Friday, February 8, at 5 p.m.," said Hanright, who explained that signed forms must be returned to his office no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 12.

Former School Committee member Marc Grimaldi has pulled papers for a School Committee seat, while current School Committee member Shelly MacNeill, appointed last August to the post vacated by Miriam Regan-Fiore, also plans to run.

Kevin McLaughlin, a Zoning Board of Appeals veteran, has pulled papers for the five-year Planning Board opening. Former Planner Frank Federico has reportedly opted against running for re-election, according to Hanright.

In addition, Library Board of Trustee members Rocco Ciccarello and Michael Rora have indicated their intent to seek reelection to their office. There are two trustee seat openings, both of which are for three year terms.

Board of Assessor member William Jordan and Housing Authority veteran Fred Mosley will also seek another term in office. There is one, five year opening for the Housing Authority, while the assessor's seat is for three years.

Hanright also would like to remind citizens that polls for the Feb. 5 Presidential Primary will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The Town Clerk is asking that residents try to return their 2008 Census forms to his office when they come to Town Hall to vote next week.
