STONEHAM, MA - Three new candidates have entered the Town races, but none are new to Stoneham politics.

Former Selectmen Anthony C. Kennedy of 3 Janice Lane and James Juliano of 33 Ellen Road pulled papers last week in hopes of getting back on the Board. And the woman responsible for putting the Stoneham School Committee on TV, Terri L. Ghannam of 37 Green Street, pulled papers for School Committee this week.

“I think the Board could use my financial knowledge, especially now that Jeff (Town administrator Nutting) is leaving,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy served as a Selectman from 1997-2000. Besides keeping an eye on finances, he said that his priorities would include a new cultural center for Stoneham and taking a more active role in lobbying state legislators for school aid.

The Independent could not reach Juliano in time for this edition.

In a letter to the editor last week, Ghannam criticized School Committee member Mary Pecoraro’s decision to remain on the Committee during her campaign for Board of Selectmen.

Ghannam and The Independent played phone tag. More from her and Juliano next week.

The Town Election is April 3. The deadline to pull papers is Feb. 9. The deadline to return and certify them is Feb. 13.
