STONEHAM, MA - There appears to be just two races in the upcoming town election which is now just over two months away.

But don't let the small number of races fool you--there will be no lack of political activity within the town over the next eight weeks.

The battles for Town Clerk and for two seats on the Board of Selectmen should be some of the more interesting ones in recent years.

Two more candidates recently entered the fray for the two openings on the Board of Selectmen.

Incumbent Chairman Albert Conti, who would be seeking a fourth term, and former Republican Town Committee Chairman Gordon Perks both obtained their nomination papers over the past 10 days.

If they do indeed choose to run they will join incumbent Selectman Patrick Jordan and long-time Town Clerk Annamae Arsenault in a race full of strong candidates.

The last day to obtain nomination papers is February 13.

The race for Town Clerk is wide open after Arsenault announced her retirement last year and intention to run for Selectman.

Three solid candidates in John Bracciotti, Assessor John Hanright and Assistant Town Clerk Kathleen Sullivan have all taken out their nomination papers for the Town Clerk's position.

There is just one seat open on the School Committee and it is currently being held by Steven Migliorini who is completing his first term on the board. Migliorini has yet to pull his papers.

Several incumbents took out their nomination papers recently including long-time Assessors Richard Mangerian, Housing Authority member Fred Mosley, Library Trustee Susan Doucette and Planning Board member Frank Federico.

The only other incumbents who have yet to obtain their nomination papers are Board of Health member Tom O'Grady and Susan Waldman Fixman, who holds the second available seat on the Library Trustees.

The last day to file nomination papers with the Board of Registrars, with the correct amount of signatures, is February 17.
